This is a review of the JG MP5J and JG MP5SD6.
For those that don't know the MP5J is basically an MP5 with muzzle attachment and a new style retractable stock. The MP5SD6 is an MP5 with integrated silencer and the same retractable stock as the J. So what do you get in the pack, well everything you need, practically like every other Cheapsoft manufacturer you get a battery (small type), hicap mag, barrel cleaning rod, small bag of bbs, HK style charger and a manual. All nicely presented in a cardboard box with cut-outs and a couple of bits of packing to keep it all in place. I'll go through the MP5J for the review and then give a bit of info on the different bits in the SD6 at the end. Starting at the front and working backwards: Flash Hider Now this is kinda neat, you actually get 3 for the price of one (or in Cheapsoft, for the price of about 1/8). You get the one you see in all the pictures, which is a plastic quick detachable one that looks very smart and gives the MP5 a harder look than normal. All you need to do is give it a bit of a twist and it comes off to reveal a normal 3 lug, metal, MP5 flash hider. So where's the third? Well if you take that 3 lug flash hider and unscrew the tip, you get a 14mm thread (however I can't check this as I can't get the damn thing off, it's way too tight and my players are in the garage). Front site This is all metal and pretty substantial. It's a simple ring with pin design, but not adjustable. Then again it's a CQB gun by nature, who wants to get picky about the height of a pin in the front for that kind of thing? Fore-grip The grip is pretty nice to how and feels solid enough. This is where the Mini-Battery goes. To remove this simply pull out the (rather stubborn) front pin and pull the grip off. This reveals the battery compartment, wiring and fuse. Cocking Handle This is actually nicer to use than the Marui one. Basically it's a metal handle connected to a plastic tube in the top of the receiver which has a spring attached. You can pull it back and flip it up to lock. The thing that makes this nicer than the Marui is that the spring is a little bit stronger, so gives it a much better feel as you pull back, and a really nice CLACK sound when you release it. Sadly I like to pull back, lock, replace mag then just tap it out of it's lock with the palm of my hand and have it CLACK back into place (just like I saw on dat film once, yu no, that one wiv im, dat blook, init man). How strong the handle is against the notoriously weak Marui one has yet to be seen. Hop Adjustment Lever Now I can't say I've ever liked this on any MP5, just a weak stick of plastic sticking out at the back of the Fore-grip. The only nice thing is that it's easy to adjust, as it's right there in the open. Receiver The receiver is really nice, the detail is good and definitely right up they’re with Marui. Its all plastic, but good quality ABS and feels solid. It also fits with the Marui Quick Release Mount, in fact it fit that better than some Marui's I've used :erm:. This gun looks amazing with the QR Mount and an Aimpoint on top. Mag Release and Mag Well The mag well was a little tight with the Mag that came with the gun but is a really good fit for Marui Mags and those wonderful 500rnd double mags on RSOV (buy some NOW!!!). I have yet to have a mag clip in and instantly unwind like I have on practically every Marui MP5 I've used, however I really haven't tested it enough to see if this is a proper conclusion. The Mag Release catch is nice and solid, with a good spring behind it, so no worries about mags falling out. Oh and the release mech is all metal, along with the sling catch thingy  . Trigger The trigger is all metal and has a really nice solid pull to it. It also has a very positive finish that I like on guns, I can't stand "squishy" triggers. So this scores top marks Fire Select Switch Ok this is my first gripe. And it's not about the JG gun either... I hate MP5 Fire Select Switches! All of them! The reason is that they are ambidextrous, great you think, but the problem is that the right side clip always gets in the way of my trigger finger when on full auto, making it very easy to accidentally click it to semi (yes, I've don't it in a 1 man ambush... TWAP!.... er... oh feck!!!! ten guys turn, point and fire). Now the JG is better than the Marui in that the Click to hold the switch in place is a bit stronger, so less likely to accidentally move to semi. But it's still something I hate about MP5. Ok for those that like MP5 selectors, the JG is great. You feel it click into each position nicely and it works from either side. Rear Sight This is a rather nice metal cylinder with different size holes in, the idea being that you turn the cylinder to the hole size you want and then line up with the front site. You can I believe adjust the height of this, but really, who's going to bother in airsoft. The JG cylinder doesn't seem as smooth to rotate as the Marui one, bit it click into place nicely, and you'll only ever do this to play with it anyhow. Stock This is great. The J stock it a reworked version of the older extendable stock. Basically the butt part of it is a lot more substantial than the old one and the cylinder of the adjustment lever is a bit different. It still works in the same way, you press the adjustment lever to release the stock, pull it back until the lever click in to lock, and if you want you can press it again and pull a little more to get another inch of length. There are 3 adjustment lengths, All the way in, Out most of the way, Out all the way. It's up to you to choose. The stock feels a lot more ridged than the old Marui ones and doesn't wobble at all. The only issue I have is that the adjustment lever doesn't always click back when it gets to one of the adjustment holes. I think a little silicon oil will do the trick though. A word of warning though, sliding the stock in and out will eventually start to strip the paint on the metal prongs, this is just the same on the Marui’s too. Sling Mounts Why are these at the end? Well you just have sooooooo many! 5 in total! One at the bottom of the stock, two (one on either side) at the back of the receiver, one on the left side of the mag well (although I think this is just for clipping when slung) and one at the front that can be screwed in on either side. So basically just about any sling will work with this gun! How does it work? Very well indeed! I fired a mag off in each of the MP5's and both performed very well. Looks like around the 340 -350 fps mark, with a nice crisp sound to it. I can't test the hop as my garden isn't too big, so will have to try this out at the weekend, weather permitting  (Yes, I know, fair-weather softer and al that but wet and cold is still wet and cold whether you're softing or not). SD differences: The difference is in the barrel, Fore-grip and front sling mount. The sling mount it actually the same but you cannot move it, so it’s stuck on the left side. There is a large silencer, this is removable, but leave a very untidy end (inner barrel pocking out). The Fore-grip is a nice rubberised plastic tube that is held on by two removable lugs. Once the lugs are out you can slide the tube forward and off to allow access to the battery area. You’ll have to be careful not to lose the lugs when changing the battery ‘in country’ as they are pretty small. I was quit surprised at how much of a difference the silencer made to the noise level, although obviously not silent, it did significantly quieten the sound. Well it did until I ran out of ammo… DON’T run out of ammo with this, the sound difference is even more marked than a Spetz dry firing! Conclusion These are really stunning guns, match them up with a few choice accessories and they will be the dogs dangly's! They feel great, seem to work great and are better than the Marui's in quite a few areas. If you're looking for the best cheapsoft MP5's then you've found them! JG also produce both model with full stocks and large batteries, but I like the TAKTIKUL LOOK Between the J and the SD6, well they are both great guns, and you could always add a silencer to the J, so it just comes down to taste really, not function. Personally I like the J because I can put a Navel flashlight fore-grip on and it looks awesome! But it’s your choice. |

I love these little guns, they are just stunning. The short length is great for moving around corners, and even cawling through brush.

I have the SD6 and it is awesome; even in woodland games it out performed a number of other guns most of which cost A LOT more than this little thing. I really like it and would recommend it to anyone.

I bought one a couple of months ago, only thing I didnt really like was the wobbly flashhider and the tight handguard.
After some modding, I managed to swap the body for a ICS metal one, and I also bought a well handguard. Turned out real nice:

Oof, the old A-3 style S-E-F selector system! Nasty!
These weapons are fantastic in reality by the way, with superb accuracy! Even though its got quite a short barrel! Looks like JG have got accurate models of the MP5's, with good metal parts. This is a very nice review that you have done. Constructive Criticism > add pictures to the review to give it more depth! But thanks! Regards, Gaffa. |

Cheers for the kind words on the review
. Yes I do need to add pictures, but just didn't have time. The flash hider on the J was fine on mine, but I did swap the forgrip for the same Navy grip as shown, and it looks spanky Add a little rail to the top and an Aimpoint and these look stunning ![]() The only problem I'm having is trying to fit a 9.6v mini battery in the grip, it's just a little bit too big... Still these work very well on 8.4V so there's no real need, I just like Uber Splattage when needed ![]() |

Got this baby for CQB's and it doesn't disappointed me. It shoots great with accuracy and very easy to handle, super lightweight. A good back up also for Milsim's... Best Buy!

Thanks for pointing this out here on the forums
The demand is there the free SEF Patch will probably be downloaded over 70-80,000 times this year but I appreciate its a tricky task with the RC so close. So that being said, I added a few probablys and maybes to the blog post. Fingers crossed _______________________________________ Website I designed for instant cash company. |
